ReddCoin is among the favorite cryptocurrencies for people who send and receive tips on Reddit. Not only Reddit, we’ve noticed a lot of people using it on Twitter and Telegram as well. This doesn’t mean other cryptocurrencies aren’t for tipping, it’s just the user’s preference.

To make the sending and receiving for the funds even more easier, the developers of ReddCoin with introduce a Google chrome extension called ReddID and the source code of it is open source (Available on Github.) Installation of the extension connects the user to the ReddCoin network and shows up a tip button on the favorite social media platforms.

Two months back, ReddCoin was able to acquire all legal documentations which would define it as utility coin and not a security coin. With the legal documentations, working with government institutions or other regulatory institutions would become much more easier. For instance, if a country’s regulatory institution approve ReddCoin, you can use it just like the FIAT currency. However, this is to question till the regulatory institutions make cryptocurrency legal in their countries.

As reported by their reddit account, the beta version of the ReddID Extension is live and running. As of this posting, it has been tested by 80+ users. Anyone who is interested in using it can request the /u/TechAdept (Reddit) or on Telegram.  Some of the latest features of the extension are:

  • Check names are valid before sending out to network
  • Display some feedback to a user during the registration process on the UI
  • Enable/disable order/registration buttons according to current state
  • Fixed typo on twiter => twitter preventing name lookups
  • Improved twitter title display
  • Fixed rendering of duplicate tipping buttons on twitter
  • Fixed reddit title extraction
  • Facebook title and URL extraction improved
  • Fixed rendering of duplicate tipping buttons on youtube
  • Improved URL retrieval of comments on youtube

The basic idea behind this extension is to connect all social media accounts to a single ReddID account. So that sending and tipping becomes much more easier. A creator doesn’t have to maintain multiple accounts or have multiple usernames, this way, they can have all the amount they’ve tipped into a single account.

The extension supports majority of the social media platforms, Facebook, Flickr, Instagram, Reddit, Twitter, and YouTube. These platforms account for 85% of the social media traffic on the internet. As of now, it’s just a Chrome extension, but the developers will be providing a mechanism in the form of an API to enable small website owners to have a similar button on the website.

Earlier we also posted about Coinbase launching plugin to online stores to accept cryptocurrency payments. If the API goes live, we can expect a plugin which would allow small publishers to get tipped from their site. If you are planning to install the ReddID, you shall follow the official guide.
