A recent NBA matchup involving the Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets also involved cryptocurrency on display. The home team Rockets also helped host a contest during halftime which showcased Bitcoin Cash (BCH) as part of the competition and the giveaway.
A report via Bitcoin website says that the mining operation Antpool was at the December 27 game in Houston. As part of their visit, they brought a booth to the arena to showcase the advantages of using blockchain and various crypto digital assets.
They also hosted a contest called Antpool Red Planet Race between two competitors during the NBA game’s intermission. The contestants had to “mine” bitcoin cash (BCH) on the basketball court with the winner getting $300 in the crypto asset. A video clip was posted on Twitter showing off the contest as it went down at the Toyota Center.
During the contest, each of the competitors had to receive two deposits as they did their “mining” with Antpool on the BCH chain. Then, they needed to plant “red rocket” flags into the red rocks. One contestant managed to do so in about 45 seconds and won the $300 Bitcoin Cash prize.
It’s not the first time that a form of cryptocurrency was featured in sports, and won’t be the last. Litecoin Foundation is sponsoring mixed martial arts organization Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) for their Dec. 29 pay-per-view in Los Angeles, California. They’ll have Litecoin symbols or logo on the canvas floor for the arena during the latest UFC event.
The Bitcoin Cash mining that took place at Houston’s NBA game also brought with it plenty of excitement from the crypto community. In particular, a number of users on the BTC Reddit were excited to see the crypto shown off at a professional sports event.
As of this report, Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is trading at over $166 each, according to the Coinbase exchange.
