Erik Finman is a 21-year-old high school dropout and self-made millionaire. Finman was 12 years old in 2011 when he purchased $1,000 worth of bitcoin. At the time the average price of bitcoin shares was between $10 and $12. The 446 bitcoins owned by Finman today are worth more than $7,000 apiece and are worth more than $3 million collectively.

The latest endeavor from Finman has been characterized as a ‘crypto space drop’ to a school located in the Greater Accra Region in Ghana. The operation involves sending cryptocurrency through satellites positioned in space to an antenna located on earth. Finman says his space drop represents a great opportunity for communities that traditionally do not possess the infrastructure to access things like cryptocurrency.

Finman told the business insider that he and his team wanted to demonstrate to the world that a community in a remote location could benefit from a crypto space drop in a real and direct way.

The Saint Mary’s School in Korle Gonno was the recipient of $1,000 in MTL sent by Finman. The money will be used to pay for roof repairs and the construction of new benches and tables for students who attend the school.

Metal Pay is the company behind the cryptocurrency MTL. The coin launched in August and Finman is an investor. Finman says Metal Pay is set to become the killer of the Libra coin planned by Facebook. He also says that he is willing to put all of the money he has made with cryptocurrency into MTL if it is necessary to ensure the success of the coin.

A satellite Finman helped to launch a year ago was included in the group of devices used to move the MTL to Ghana.

Finman was also a leader for Project Da Vinci in December 2018. The project involved a group of teens who sent a crypto wallet into space along with a satellite. The project was part of the Educational Launch of Satellites programs for NASA that allows students in Stem programs to launch small satellites.
