Ben Melkman began his pursuit of a career in finances at the London School of Economics where he graduated with honors. The UK school is also set for political and social studies and offers a very prestigious environment because they have employed Nobel Prize winners in the past.

Ben Melkman continued his pursuit of work in the field of economics after graduation. In the early 2000s, he was employed at Morgan Stanley as an executive director. He worked under Morgan Stanley for over four years. While working for the company, he was based out of London.

Ben Melkman left Morgan Stanley, and he moved to Geneva, Switzerland. He became a manager and partner at Brevan Howard. His work as a portfolio manager at this company ended in the spring of 2016, but not with that very stellar performance on his behalf.

Melkman made several wise investments during his time at Brevan Howard, and one of them involved the Argentina bond market. Many investors may have shielded away from the South American country and their bonds because they have defaulted on them previously, not once but twice in less than a decade. The country has gone through some political upheaval and leadership changes. Milkman studied one of the leaders from the country. It was a gamble for Argentina to attempt to sell bonds again, and it was a gamble for anybody who believed that they would not have another default episode, but Ben Melkman saw something new in the program that made him think differently. Melkman went on to invest in the Argentina bonds. This move was completed in 2015, and that year Brevan Howard’s fund increased by slightly more than 15%. This was in part due to the Argentina bonds being a success.

Ben Melkman has branched out onto his own now. He has opened Light Sky Macro, and he has based his institution out of the United States in New York. Mr. Melkman was able to raise over $1 billion after opening Light Sky. It took the company approximately six months to build the initial capital.

Mr. Melkman has always had a leadership quality that he expresses was developed by his family atmosphere. His family came from a business of entrepreneurs who ran small companies. Some of the noted skills Ben possesses that makes him able to drive funds and make crucially important investment decisions are his research abilities and to think independently of the masses. In addition, the way he structures his goals and intended outcomes appear to have an influence on his ultimate decisions too. His expertise can be a combination of his intense schooling, desires to succeed, and personal background.

Light Sky Macro under the leadership of Melkman will mainly work with large institutional investors. Their strategies will involve a macro approach with a focus on predicting the outcomes of the international economy driven by politics. Just as much of his work and research that he did involving the Argentina bond purchase he made while at Brevan Howard, Mr. Melkman will be looking for new scenarios for his own company and investors at Light Sky. It must take a great deal of global understanding of the political arenas at play to make those sorts of predictions in world finances. Many economies are unstable and have political and rest, but this can allow opportunities for growth and freedom in many environments around the world. Some examples of situations to observe closely are the relationships between China and the United States, including their trade wars, and the future of Brexit. Other areas that Ben Melkman may still be keeping a watchful eye on are South America and Asia.
