IBM, the cognitive and cloud computing giant has filed a patent for using Blockchain Database to manage a DBMS. The patent is titled as, “Managing a Database Management system using Blockchain Database.”
On studying the abstract, it was found that the company plans to remove inconsistencies in the database by using blockchain. Going further into it, we found that the company plans to maintain two databases, one would be their central database and the other one would be the blockchain database.
The central database would be the source of data for the blockchain database. Every time, a change is made to it, the blockchain database will process the changes and store the changes in itself as well. In the background, the blockchain database would store the data block by block and unless it receives confirmation from everyone on the network, it won’t store it. This way, if there’s some unwanted data found on the central database, one could know or stop an attack from happening.
As mentioned in the patent abstract,
A central database to include a set of central data may be structured with respect to the DBMS. A blockchain database which is linked with the central database may be constructed with respect to the DBMS. A set of blockchain data may be established in the blockchain database corresponding to the set of central data of the central database. An access request may be received with respect to the DBMS. In response to receiving the access request, both the central database and the blockchain database may be maintained.
To access the system, one might need to initiate an access request to the Database management system. In response, both the central database and the blockchain database would be maintained.
Earlier this month, We covered about, IBM and Maersk’s supply blockchain being signed by 94 companies in the industry. Now, the giant is up with another patent in regards to blockchain technology. This seems that the giant likes the technology and is planning to solve some major problems using the power blockchain.
This month has been one of the best months for the blockchain technology, as many giants like Sony have applied for patents in regards to the technology. Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO at JP Morgan Phase says, “Blockchain is real.” Turkey launches BlockchainIST, an university level centre for research on blockchain. World Bank mandates Common Wealth Bank of Australia to come up with the first blockchain bond of the world. Colorado’s governor, Jared Polis introduces blockchain in his political campaign. Volkswagen plans to bring the technology to the road by introducing it into their cars.
Note: There were many stories around blockchain this month. Also, most of them were positive, This means, the technology is really welcomed by people.
